Castle Residences

Sydney, NSW

We love a challenge and this unique residential project did not disappoint, offering multiple complexities to test us. Heritage elements coupled with a unique architectural design on a confined inner city site all contributed to make this an interesting materials handling conundrum.

The distinctive Castle Residences is a flagship project for developer United Development and Reds Global is proud to work with Hutchinson Builders to bring it to life. The 37 storey tower includes refurbishment of the 142 year old heritage listed Porter House building next door. From level 11 the building cantilevers 12m to suspend over Porter House for 27 storeys above.

Our materials handling strategy was a multi-crane solution, using two of our Terex CTL430-24 tower cranes. Once the building had reached level 2, Tower Crane 1 was assembled on a grillage and then subsequently erected the second crane. With such a small site, the cranes are in very close proximity being only 25-27m apart, and once the cantilevered beams are in place, Tower Crane 1 will be dismantled by Tower Crane 2 to open up more space to move around site. A building tie was installed at level 10 to prevent the crane moving around and damaging the heritage building.

With almost constant interactions about engineering solutions, we have worked very closely with Hutchinson Builders on this project to make sure the developer’s vision is realised.
